Two football clubs in Greater Manchester sent their players on driving awareness courses to help them to be better drivers.

Driving instructor Adrian Shurmer is giving lessons to players from Manchester United and Bolton Wanderers.

The ex-policeman, from Great Harwood in Lancashire, said he teaches the players to keep the same cool head and control on the road as on the pitch.

He said: "I talk their language. They love it and I don't patronise them."

"They find me entertaining. They don't want me to stop," he added.

"I tell them it's about commanding the road - keeping your space and predicting others' moves, just as you do in a game."
