Agnès Catherine Poirier

Diplômée de la Sorbonne, de l'Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences-Po), étudiante en thèse d'Histoire à la London School of Economics, Agnès Catherine Poirier vit et travaille entre Londres et Paris depuis 1995. Correspondante free-lance pour Le Monde (1996), elle couvre l'actualité culturelle pour Le Figaro entre 1997 et 2001.

En parallèle de son travail de journaliste et critique, elle est lectrice de scénarios pour des sociétés de production et de distribution française, britannique et américaine, lisant une moyenne d'un scénario par jour pendant cinq ans (1997-2002).

Depuis 2001, Agnès Catherine Poirier est une correspondante de Libération à Londres. Elle collabore aussi régulièrement en tant que commentatrice et critique aux émissions de radio et de télévision britanniques de la BBC (BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 5 live, BBC World Service, BBC1, BBC News 24 et BBC4) et de Channel 4 (100 Greatest Movie Moments). Elle collabore régulièrement à la presse britannique notamment The Guardian et The Observer . Elle est la correspondante en Grande-Bretagne de Télérama et du Film Français. Depuis 2003, elle produit et présente des séries d'émissions sur la musique de films pour France Musiques, Play It Again! en compagnie du critique Franck Garbarz, et, cette année, Au Bonheur des Gammes spécial festival de Cannes.

Depuis 2002, Agnès Catherine Poirier collabore à la pré-sélection des films britanniques pour le Festival de Cannes et Thierry Frémaux, son directeur artistique. Elle est également membre de l'Avance sur Recettes du CNC (Premier collège).

Son premier essai, Les Nouveaux Anglais, est sorti en France en avril 2005 aux éditions Alvik. Son deuxième livre, Touché! A French woman's take on the English , vient de sortir en Grande-Bretagne, publié par Weidenfeld & Nicolson (Orion House).

Son troisième essai, Le modèle anglais: une illusion française , antidote à La France qui tombe, sortira en France le 14 septembre 2006.

Agnes Poirier

French born Agnès Poirier is a graduate from the Sorbonne, the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris ( Sciences-Po ) and a former PhD student at the London School of Economics . She moved to London in 1995 and started writing for Le Monde (1996) and then for Le Figaro’s as UK arts correspondent. (1997-2001).

Parallel to her work as a reporter and critic for the French national daily press, she worked as a script-reader on American, British and French-language films, reading on average a script a day.

Since 2001, she has been a political correspondent and film critic for Libération and a regular contributor to the BBC on politics and films (Radio 3, Radio 4, Radio 5 live, BBC World Service, BBC1, BBC News 24 and BBC4) and Channel 4 (100 Greatest Movie Moments). She is also a regular commentator for The Guardian and The Observer. She is the UK editor of the French movie industry magazine Le Film Français covering British cinema. Since 2003, she has produced and presented two series on film music for Radio France (France Musiques).

Agnès Poirier has been an independent adviser on British films for Thierry Frémaux, artistic director of the Cannes Film Festival since 2002, and is one of the 9 members of the CNC ’s Avance sur Recettes.

Her first book, Les Nouveaux Anglais, came out in France in April 2005 (Alvik publishing). Her second book, Touché! A French woman's take on the English , has just been published in the UK by Weidenfeld & Nicolson (Orion House).

Her forthcoming essay Le modèle anglais: une illusion française an antidote to Sarkozy's politics, will be published in France by Alvik on 14 September.
